[Voices of Galaxy] Meet the Bolivian women driving social change with skateboards and smartphones – Samsung Newsroom Malaysia

Voices of the Galaxy spotlights people who use their passion, creativity and determination with technology to make a positive impact in their own lives and communities.

For ImillaSkate, skateboarding is more than a sport, it’s a philosophy of life. As a nine-year-old woman in her 20s, Imilaskate decided to use her passion for skateboarding to instill a new sense of pride among Cholitas, indigenous Bolivian women who were not always accepted by society. Wearing poleras, the traditional skirts of their Cholita culture, they took to the streets on their skateboards and used smartphones to capture their intentions with every step. Today, Galaxy technology helps them continue to expand and engage with more people around the world on social media, opening up new possibilities for them. From dynamic skateboarding videos to important updates on your performance, smartphones are the single most important tool for amplifying your messages of inclusion.

This is the story of Galaxy users Elinor Butrago, Belen Fajardo, Fabiola Gonzales, Brenda Mamani, Huara Medina, Susan Meza, Estefany Morales, Daniela Santivañez and Desi Tacuri — collectively known as Imilasket — who want the world to celebrate Cholita and accept Women both inside and outside the skateboarding world.
